Strong performance by UPM, Stora Enso and Metsa Group

Metsä Group, Stora Enso and UPM have reported their first half results. All the companies managed to increase their sales compared to first half of 2016. Also profits before tax improved and return on investment of all companies was more than ten percent, UPM topping the pack ROI being 11.7%. Major part (45%) of the UPM’s profits came from pulp. In the case of Stora Enso fording cartons contributed 30% of profits even though the new mill in Beihai made operating loss. This should change by the end of the year and in 2018 Beihai mill is expected to run at full speed. Metsa Group’s  new pulp mill in Äänekoski will start in August this year as planned, improving the turn over and  having major impact on long term profits. (source: Maaseudun Tulevaisuus 4.8.2017)
